Lyon Striker Depay finally speaks after failed transfer to Barcelona: 'Everything happens for a reason'

Depay says that he was very close to joining us but certain regulations made the move impossible.

Memphis is confident that Barca will remain interested in him in the near future if he continues his good form.

"Barcelona? I think that if I keep doing my thing, the interest will still be there in the near future," Memphis Depay has told NOS following the match against Mexico.

"I won't go into details, but yes. I was very close to joining Barcelona but certain rules prevented the deal from happening, unfortunately. I believe everything happens for a reason. If I have to play for Barca, ultimately it will happen."

According to recent reports, Barca and Lyon had reached an agreement over the transfer of Depay. However, La Liga refused to register the player as it would have exceeded the Catalans' salary limit. Blaugrana have reportedly promised to sign Memphis in January.
