Jordi Moix expected harsh criticism if the Catalans spent actual money on the player who will be free to come next year.

Yet the club are now left with just 4 centre-backs.

"If we had made an investment for Eric Garcia, people would have said that how do we sign a player who was free and with whom you can negotiate for as of January," Barcelona vice-president Jordi Moix told RAC1.

According to multiple reports, Barca fell just €2m short of Manchester City's demands. The Catalans offered €10m fixed plus €8m in variables. However, the Citizens demanded a further €2m in add-ons.
