2 reasons why Werner's frustrating run will not be a long-term concern for Chelsea

Werner hasn't scored in the past 2 games - despite getting plenty of chances.

The German has had a frustrating return since the international break ended, but that is no reason for long-term worry for Chelsea fans. Here are 2 key reasons why:

1. Fatigue

Since September, Werner started 19 out 21 games for club and country - playing over 70 minutes in all those games.

"Of course, some days I’m tired because of the [number] of games I’ve played. But I did it last year as well and these days it’s normal to play so many games," Werner had said just before the latest international break.

Werner is a central figure for Chelsea and Germany, but even the best need rest - especially a player that presses and runs as much as Timo does.

2. Getting Chances

Against Newcastle, the forward missed a 1v1 situation in the 1st half before choosing the wrong option in another instance in the 2nd. A similar situation occurred against Rennes where Werner skied a simple finish early in the game before missing another 1v1 second before the winner was scored.

The major positive is that Werner is still managing to get into fantastic positions, even when he's struggling. All he needs is to rediscover the finishing touch and we're looking at a potential golden boot winner.

Chelsea play Spurs next in the Premier League on Sunday - a big game that Lampard can ill afford to rest Werner for.

However, with Giroud and Tammy in form, and Champions League qualification secured, Werner will hopefully get a rest very soon.
