Jonathan Akpoborie Condemns Gernot Rohr

Former Nigeria international Jonathan Akpoborie has condemned Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr calling him a liability in the team.

Akpoborie could not hide his feeling following Nigeria’s disappointing outing against Sierra Leone in the double-header 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

After surrendering a four-goal lead to draw 4-4 in Benin, the Super Eagles were held to a goalless draw in the reverse fixture in Freetown.

The Minister of Youth and Sport, Sunday Dare, also expressed his disappointment with the results, hinting Rohr could face the sack.

And reflecting on the qualifiers, Akpoborie wrote on his Twitter handle:”All the billboards and all your TV sets have not been telling lies, Rohr has become a liability, he can’t give what he doesn’t have.”

And responding to readers who reacted to his comments the 1985 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner with the Golden Eaglets said:”We should not have given him this contract in the first place. The last four games were horrible

“The alarms came on before they gave him this contract. I already said it by that time. But do they listen? The answer is no they don’t.”

However, Nigeria still top Group L on eight points after four games and will face Benin Republic in March 2021 on matchday five before rounding off the qualifiers with a home tie against Lesotho.
