Former Blue Leboeuf blames Mendy and Silva for Everton goal

The Blues' bad defence cost them the game.

Mendy was at fault for conceding the penalty but Silva also has to take some blame as he was hesitant which led to the foul.

Lebouef adds that he was upset over the Blues' performance as they lacked a winning mentality.

"I think Chelsea did well in the middle of the park in terms of possession of the ball but they were bad defensively," Former Blues defender Frank Leboeuf told ESPN FC after our 1-0 defeat to Everton.

"We saw that penalty that Mendy conceded but I think I will put Thiago Silva guilty for the penalty as well because he didn’t attack the ball, he was hesitating, he thought that Mendy would go out which he did but too late.

"I was very in a way upset with the way Chelsea played because it reminded me the way we were playing with Chelsea at the time I was at the club where we didn’t know the fighting spirit."

The loss against Everton was Chelsea's first defeat in 18 games across all competitions. The Blues did not look at their best and wasted a chance to back to the top of the table again.

The error from Mendy was very uncharacteristic of the usually assured keeper. However, he and Silva have helped us so much that they were almost due a night off! We were not at our best as a team in that game and we're sure that Lampard's men will fight back in the next game.
