How Man Utd Boss Solskjaer Fixed Problem Mourinho Created

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho back in 2018.

Mourinho spent two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford with fans hoping the legendary Portugese coach would be the man to push the club back up to the top of the Premier League.

Despite their improvements in the league, Mourinho was often criticised by fans for his defensive tactics and lack of free-flowing attacking football.

He also fell out with a number of players during his time in charge, most notably Paul Pogba.

But fast forward two years under Solskjaer and the Red Devils now look very different.

And former United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen has pinpointed where he believes the Norwegian has made the biggest change from Mourinho’s time in charge.

“I think managers should never really publicly discuss players, never mind criticising them,” he said on Stadium Astro.

“Every human being performs far better if they get praised and if they get support.

“Every player does sometimes go through some bad spells, but you as a manager and coaching staff are there to help him and make him see the areas on how he should improve.

“It’s easy to criticise people, but the manager and the staff have an obligation to improve those players.

“I’m 100 per cent sure that Ole’s management style has been completely different than Jose’s for sure, because Ole would never criticise players in public and he feels and he makes every player in his squad important.

“But there are certain parameters within that squad of Manchester United because Ole is very clear about what United players should be and what they should live up to.”
