Laporta praise Koeman understanding for Barca's inability to sign Eric Garcia in January

The centre-back's move to Camp Nou this month is 'not viable', according to Joan Laporta.

Even though Ronald Koeman wants Barca to sign the player now, the Dutchman understands the club's poor financial situation, says the presidential candidate.

“Koeman was impeccable, very elegant, he understands the club’s economic situation, although he wants the player (Eric Garcia),” Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta said on Wednesday, as quoted by Sport.

“For now, the transfer is not viable. I’m partial to waiting until the summer.

“He’s shown he wants to come to Barca if he wants to, may he keep showing it. The option they are talking about is sealing now but incorporating him in the summer.”

Ronald Koeman was present at Wednesday's meeting between Barca's interim president Carles Tusquets and three presidential hopefuls - Laporta, Victor Font and Toni Freixa.

According to the latter, Garcia will join the Catalans on a free transfer in the summer when his contract with Man City expires.
