Mourinho Compares Lampard Sack

Jose Mourinho has expressed how sorry he is for Frank Lampard after he was sacked by Chelsea on Monday as the result of what the Spurs manager called “the brutality of football”.

The 42-year-old was dismissed after overseeing a slump in form which sent the Bluues tumbling to ninth in the Premier League table.

Lampard is expected to be replaced by the German former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel, whose appointment could be announced on Tuesday.

Mourinho twice had spells as Blues boss which ended in acrimonious circumstances between him the club hierarchy.

He said: “I am always sad when a colleague loses his job. Frank is not just a colleague, he is an important person in my career, so I feel sorry he did (get sacked).

“But it is the brutality of football, especially modern football, so when you become a manager you know that sooner or later it is going to happen to you.”

Mourinho was speaking after Tottenham’s late show saw them beat Wycombe 4-1 in the FA Cup fourth round.
