Man United set to rival Chelsea for Declan Rice signing

Manchester United are prepared to rival Chelsea for Declan Rice next summer, according to ESPN.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to continue his squad overhaul, and the West Ham star will be on his wishlist if they need to sign a central midfielder.

They are aware, though, that Chelsea remains in the front seat, mainly because of Rice's boyhood association with the Blues.

However, Frank Lampard, who is the main proponent of singing Rice, can't be certain of his long-term future as the Chelsea manager himself.

This uncertainty makes it less likely that the club will commit to spending a sizeable portion of their transfer budget on the manager's choice.

As per ESPN, West Ham hope that a £70m will scare off potential suitors anyway, but it does not mean that we won't get to hear more Declan Rice stories in the build-up to the next summer's race.
