Premier League teams set to include Covid-19 clauses in new and old player contracts

Premier League and EFL clubs are looking to include new legal guarantees in player contracts to cover themselves if the coronavirus pandemic worsens.

Loan deals are setting down conditions where players can be recalled or loan fees cancelled or recoup in case football comes to a stop again.

If new player contracts are being negotiated, clubs are looking to ensure player salaries can be reduced by a small percentage if football is paused like it was for over 3 months last year.

These clauses have led to more complex negotiations between clubs than ever before.

5 games have already been cancelled in the Premier League this season while 40 players tested positive during testing last week.

Last week, Frank Lampard had revealed that 5 Chelsea staff had tested positive while players such as Tammy Abraham and Kai Havertz have already suffered from the virus.

On Monday, Chelsea's academy was shut down due to 20 Covid cases occurring in the past week.
