Highlight Getafe 2 - 1 Espanyol: Ünal brace leads Azulones to maiden victory

Enes Ünal scored twice in the 2-1 victory to help steer La Liga’s bottom-placed club Getafe to their first win of the season - extending their unbeaten run over Espanyol at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez to six matches.

In a match-up between two of Madrid and Barcelona’s lesser-established sides, Enes Ünal opened the scoring for Getafe with a goal worthy of winning any Clásico. Teeing the ball up with his first touch, the former Manchester City striker’s acrobatic overhead kick was no match for Diego López in the Espanyol goal, who was unable to stop the league’s bottom-placed club from taking the lead.

There would be no such elegance for the visitors’ equaliser just seven minutes later, when Sergi Gómez bundled in from close-range to restore parity before HT. Leandro Cabrera’s initial header had cannoned back off the woodwork, leaving the Espanyol defender time and space inside the six-yard box to prod home and ensure Vicente Moreno’s side would go into the break on level terms.

Chasing their first win of a much-maligned La Liga campaign, Getafe emerged from the interval on the front foot and re-established their lead midway through the half. Scorer in back-to-back league games for the first time since April, Ünal added to his tally for the evening with a delightful first-time volley inside the penalty box, putting the ‘Azulones’ back ahead.

There would be no hat-trick for the Turkish striker, who was subbed off with 15 minutes to play, yet his brace was enough for Getafe to secure their maiden three points. Time will tell if Quique Sánchez Flores’ side can escape the drop, but ending their run of 12 games without a win has certainly helped ease the pressure. For Espanyol, they have now won just one of their last 10 trips to the capital, and are winless in their previous six at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
