Manchester United turn down Newcastle's loan offer for Jesse Lingard

Newcastle's initial loan offer for Jesse Lingard has been rejected by Manchester United, according to the Independent, a tier-two source.

The Red Devils are believed to be demanding a loan fee for the 28-year-old whose contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the 2021/22 season.

A figure of £3.5 million was previously quoted by talkSPORT although it remains to be seen how much Newcastle are willing to pay to bring the forward to St James' Park this month.

Lingard himself is believed to be having reservations about moving to the north of England having previously targeted a return to London after last season's successful loan spell at West Ham.

Jesse Lingard's representatives have been approached by Tottenham Hotspur to sign the Englishman permanently in the summer, reports Sky Sports.

Spurs are reportedly fancying the chances of signing the 29-year-old for free after his impressive loan spell with West Ham last season.

The Manchester United player has only featured eight times in the Premier League this term but has two goals to his name.

Sky Sports also adds that West Ham remain interested in Lingard and could compete with Tottenham to sign him for free.

Jesse is not expected to extend his stay at Old Trafford after limited opportunities under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as well as Ralf Rangnick.
