FIFA punishes Senegal for lasers pointed at Mo Salah and fan disorder in World Cup qualifier, fines them £143,000

FIFA has punished the Senegal football federation for the fan disorder which happened in their crucial Qatar World Cup qualifying match against Egypt in March.

The game was full of controversy, including Mo Salah’s penalty in the shootout, which saw lasers being pointed at his face and made him miss his spot-kick.

FIFA also looked into the pitch invasion which took place after the game and an offensive banner being on display.

They have punished the Senegal federation 175,000 Swiss francs (£143,000) and have also ordered them to play a future competitive home game behind closed doors.

But, this won’t impact Senegal’s participation in the Qatar World Cup as their qualification is set in stone.
