Man United players set to have wages docked by 25% after failing to qualify for Champions League

Manchester United's catastrophic capitulation at the hands of Brighton means that they are mathematically out of the top-four race this season.

After having chants of "You're not fit to wear the shirt" in last evening's 4-0 drubbing, they may finally be hit where it really hurts, their pockets.

Their failure to secure Champions League football next season means they would be docked a quarter of their pay.

A clause in their contracts that protects the club from loss of revenue, which is usually generated from Champions League prize money and broadcast revenue, will mean the players are set to receive a significant reduction in their salaries.

De Gea is set to have his wages cut from £375,000-a-week to around the £281,000-a-week mark, while Ronaldo will be down from £385k down to £288k.
