Man United 'Hopeful' Of Finalising Frenkie De Jong Transfer With Barcelona

According to Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, a tier-two source, Manchester United are now 'hopeful' of completing a transfer for Frenkie de Jong after extensive negotiations with Barcelona.

The Red Devils' opening offer of €60 million plus add-ons was turned down by Barca. United then returned with a second bid of €80 million plus add-ons, which is close to what the Catalans wanted.

Luckhurst claims that it's only a matter of 'when and not if' the deal goes through.

Although De Jong is reluctant to leave his dream club Barcelona, Erik ten Hag has convinced the midfielder that he will be an important player at United.

Ten Hag developed De Jong during their days together at Ajax, which is probably one of the major reasons behind Frenkie changing his mind.

United are yet to agree on personal terms with the Dutchman but Luckhurst understands it won't be a problem.

Both parties could reach an agreement for De Jong before he returns from holiday later this week.
