Man United Squad 'Split' Over Having Harry Maguire As Captain

According to the BBC's Simon Stone, a tier-one source, the Manchester United squad is 'split' over whether or not Harry Maguire deserves to be the captain.

Last season, United finished outside the Champions League spots and failed to win silverware yet again. Embarrassing defeats to the likes of Liverpool, Brighton and Manchester City painted a grim picture for those on the field and off it.

That led to plenty of questions over whether or not Maguire is the right captain for this team. And it appears, some of the United players have these doubts as well.

Stone claims Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the favoured options to take the armband from Maguire. But this sentiment made the English centre-back 'unhappy' despite his own mistakes in key games.

Now, the captaincy decision depends on Erik ten Hag. It's up to him if he wants to relieve Maguire of his duties or keep faith in him.
