Xavi picks Dest over Alves as veteran expected to leave this summer

Barcelona will soon meet Dani Alves to announce their decision regarding his future, Javi Miguel of Diario AS says.

Most likely, the club will inform the veteran that they decided against offering him an extension. Dani's current deal expires on June 30.

With Sergi Roberto extending his contract and Barca looking to sign Cesar Azpilicueta, the Catalans could end up with four right-backs for next summer.

Xavi, then, had to pick between Sergino Dest and Alves. The coach went with the American because of his youth and potential.

According to another source, beIN Sports' Achraf Ben Ayad, Dest does not consider leaving Barca as he is happy at the club. The 21-year-old has a special relationship with Xavi and is excited about the next season.
