As per the very reliable David Ornstein of The Athletic as well as Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard, Nathan Ake is set to stay at Manchester City for the next season.
Chelsea had shown strong interest in re-signing the centre-back and were hopeful a transfer could be completed. However, City were never willing to sell if their asking price wasn't met.
The potential transfer to Chelsea did not advance because the terms of the deal were not right for City, the report states. The reported asking fee was over £40m.
Ornstein adds that Ake is happy to stay with City and the decision for him to continue there is 'mutual'.
The Blues were left 'frustrated' by City's decision to keep Ake as they were very confident of getting him.
Chelsea still want to sign three centre-backs this summer - they will have to look at other options now.
