During Raphinha's presentation at Barcelona, both president Joan Laporta and director of football Mateu Alemany were asked to give an update on Frenkie de Jong's future. Their answer contradicted each other, though.
Laporta: "It is not true that the club is forced to sell Frenkie De Jong. His trip to the US will be decided by Xavi."
Alemany: "Frenkie is a very important player. We totally count on him, but Fair Play forces us to sell players."
It appears that Laporta wants to continue pushing the line that De Jong's departure - if it happens - would be a sporting decision and not a financial one. Alemany, though, seems more honest regarding the club's economic realities.
As per the latest reports, Barca have told the Dutchman that he has to go and are pushing him to accept the offer from Manchester United. The 25-year-old doesn't want a move to Old Trafford and his agent has offered him to other clubs.
