“The Lewandowski deal ended with 45m plus 5m in variables,” Barcelona president Joan Laporta told the media in the US.
“We must thank him because with us he receives less money. We made him an offer within our capabilities and the player understood that and reduced his salary,” Laporta added.
Thus, Barcelona actually spent €50m to bring Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.
Some fans have raised eyebrows about the transfer given the club's financial predicament.
