Argentina's World Cup-winning bus parade in Buenos Aires had to be brought to a premature conclusion due to security concerns.

The South Americans staged an epic performance during the final, as they saw off title holders France to be crowned the champions.

The match was decided via a thrilling penalty shootout after it ended in a 3-3 draw after extra time, with Kylian Mbappe netting a hat-trick.

The Argentina squad arrived home to a rapturous crowd in the early hours of Tuesday, after winning the World Cup for the third time in the country’s history.

The team landed in the country’s capital of Buenos Aires amid jubilation and fanfare, with massive crowds lining the streets and cheering their champions’ return.

But their open-top bus parade with fans had to be cut short due to safety concerns amid crowd congestion.

In a video posted on Twitter, two fans jumped onto the slow-moving bus from an overhanging bridge.

Argentina Football Association boss Chiquit Tapia wrote on Twitter:

"They won't allow us to greet everyone who was at the Obelisk. The security organisations that were escorting us won't let us continue. I apologise in the name of all the players. A real shame."
