Boehly 'promises' Chelsea won't leave Stamford Bridge — will expand stadium instead

Chelsea have no plans of moving to a new stadium, Todd Boehly told the Stamford Bridge freeholders, The Sun report. The US owner has 'promised' to expand Stamford Bridge.

"The new owners have committed to redevelopment of the stadium," freeholders Chelsea Pitch Owners said.

This ends fears of Chelsea departing their historic ground.

Chelsea had long been planning to move to a new stadium, drawing up plans under Roman Abramovich. The Blues considered building a new stadium after Boehly bought the club, too.

Stamford Bridge's current capacity stands at around 40,000, the smallest among the Premier League's Big Six sides.
