Raheem Sterling unlikely to be involved in France quarter-final

Raheem Sterling is unlikely to feature for England in the World Cup quarter-final against France, according to the Evening Standard's Nizaar Kinsella.

The Chelsea forward has just rejoined the Three Lions squad after a flight back to England.

On Sunday, it was reported that Sterling's house in Surrey was robbed, with the intruders taking jewellery and watches. The player returned home as soon as he learned about the incident to make sure his family was safe.

As a result, Sterling missed almost a whole week of training which makes his involvement unlikely - even though Gareth Southgate has not ruled it out completely.

"We will have to assess that," Southgate said. "He has missed a lot of training and had two long flights. That is not good preparation for a game of this standard, but let’s see how he is."

Sterling was a starter for England in the first two games in Qatar before being rested against Wales. His trip back home meant that he missed the Round of 16 win over Senegal.
