Prosecutor demands court to place Dani Alves in prison without bail over sexual assault allegations

The Prosecutor's Office in Barcelona has requested that the court puts Dani Alves in prison without bail during his trial over the sexual assault allegations levelled against him, per Mundo Deportivo.

Alves was arrested in Spain earlier today after it was alleged that he sexually harassed a young woman in a nightclub on December 30.

The former Barca star gave his statement on the matter and was allowed to leave. However, a judge in Barcelona will decide whether to remand Alves in prison custody during his trial following the request by the prosecutor's office.

The woman in question claimed Alves has touched her underwear without her permission at the nightclub. She reported the matter to the authorities with her friends as witnesses. The footballer was then arrested upon his return to Barcelona from his base in Mexico.

Alves' entourage have flatly denied any wrongdoing by the player.
