Xavi explains why he started Lewandowski against third-tier club Ceuta

With all due respect, Ceuta are not the fiercest rival, and Barcelona should've been able to get past them without their main goalscorer Robert Lewandowski. Nevertheless, Xavi decided to start the 34-year-old despite him playing 210 minutes across two Supercopa matches in Saudi Arabia.

Here's how the coach explained his decision after the game.

"We did not want him to be two weeks without action. He's shown today that he is a pro. He's perfect for us because, in addition to his professionalism, he also scored," Xavi said.

Indeed, Lewandowski will be unable to feature in the league for two more games after his suspension was reinstated. However, we might see the striker back in action next week when the Catalans are set to play the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.
