Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has criticized Rob Holding for being "too soft" to play in his position: "Rob Holding, I am not a big fan of him, to be honest. I think he is too soft, as a defender."
"It’s such as shame also to see [Takehiro] Tomiyasu injured. I would have preferred to have played with Ben White as a central defender." Holding has had to step up in the absence of injured defenders William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu.
William Saliba sustained a back injury during Thursday's Europa League round of the 16-second leg against Sporting Lisbon. Takehiro Tomiyasu was also forced off against Sporting and was unable to fill in at right back.
While Holding played the full 90 minutes against Crystal Palace on Sunday, helping his team secure a 4-1 victory, Petit still believes that he is not fit for the role.
