Barcelona Women's Team Advances to UEFA Champions League Final after Defeating Chelsea in Semifinals

For the fourth time in five seasons, Barcelona has made it to the final of the UEFA Women's Champions League.

Last year's runners-up beat fellow 2021 finalists Chelsea 2-1 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw in Thursday's semi-final second leg at the Camp Nou.

Caroline Graham Hansen scored a goal for Barcelona, which they rightfully earned, in the 64th minute of Thursday's match.

Meanwhile, Chelsea had failed to take a single shot during the first hour of the game.

In the 67th minute, Guro Reiten equalized for her team after converting a rebound from Sam Kerr's initial attempt, which was saved by Sandra Panos.

Despite the goal, Panos faced no significant challenges thereafter, as Barcelona's defense maintained its strength.

Over 70,000 spectators attended the second leg played on Thursday, and a notable moment was the loud applause that erupted when the announcer mentioned Alexia Putellas' name before the match began.

The player who won the Ballon d'Or twice did not play on that particular night. However, it was significant because it marked her return to the matchday squad after suffering an injury to her left knee's anterior cruciate ligament on July 5 last year, which was also the day before Euro 2022 started.

It is probable that Putellas will participate in her initial Champions League match of the season during the final on June 3, where Barcelona will compete against either Arsenal or Wolfsburg.
