Harry Kane sent 'embarrassing' message after Tottenham controversy vs Everton

Graeme Souness has told Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane his actions to get Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré sent off were 'embarrassing' during the 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Cristian Stellini took charge of his first game for the club after they decided to part ways with Antonio Conte following the 3-3 draw with Southampton at St Mary's Stadium.

Despite the managerial change, it was more of the same for Spurs fans, as they witnessed their star-studded side sit back after taking the lead through Kane's penalty in the 68th minute. A decision which ultimately cost them the game as Michael Keane levelled proceedings in the 90th minute to secure a valuable point for The Toffees.

Aside from the 1-1 scoreline, the main talking point following the conclusion of the fixture was the conduct of both sets of players during the two halves of action.

Shortly before the opening goal, Mali international Abdoulaye Doucoure was shown red following an incident with Kane, where he appeared to push the striker in the face during an off the ball altercation.

Brazilian winger Lucas Moura also saw red in the dying embers of the game, just minutes after being substituted on, for a rash challenge on the goalscorer prior to his effort.

However, it was the incident involving England's all time leading marksman that provoked a reaction from former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness. Speaking in his latest column for the Daily Mail, he said: "When you lift your hands in football now, you’ve a got a real chance of getting sent off.

"But Harry exaggerated the incident enormously and however much he might claim he wasn’t trying to deceive the referee into getting a fellow professional sent off, his conduct was more embarrassing for himself than anything else."
