"It would be tough games" - Rio Ferdinand Gives His Verdict on Whether His Best Man United Team Could Beat Man City

According to Dailymail, Rio Ferdinand has insisted that the triumphant Manchester United team he was a part of during Sir Alex Ferguson's tenure would have defeated the present Treble-contending Man City squad.

Man City's chances of securing a Treble this season, comprising the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup, are strong, and if achieved, they would replicate the accomplishment of their rivals' winning team in 1999.

Notwithstanding United's triumphant three-trophy feat in 1999, Ferdinand has previously maintained that the 2008 team, which included players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, and himself, was the greatest in the club's history.

Ferdinand has recently remarked that Sir Alex Ferguson's best team at United would defeat Man City, and he even expressed confidence in his ability to stop Erling Haaland if he were still playing.

He told BT Sport ahead of tonight's game with Newcastle: 'Tough. It would be tough games.

'Pep's teams are hard to play against, I mean, we were annihilated by his Barcelona team.

'So this team with the weapons they have, with Haaland and De Bruyne connecting it would be a difficult one but I think we'd win 3-1.'

Ferdinand's final comment was met with laughter by both Owen Hargreaves and Jermaine Jenas, as well as BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey.

Afterwards, Jake Humphrey inquired of Ferdinand whether he could silence Haaland, and in response, Ferdinand jokingly remarked while pointing to his pocket, "He would be tucked away in there somewhere."

He did though add: 'We would have to fight and go toe-to-toe with them. They're a great team and you cannot deny that.'

With a remarkable record of 49 goals in 43 games across all competitions this season, it would have been a daunting task even for one of the best defenders in Premier League history like Ferdinand to contain Haaland.
