"Inter Milan Set to Part Ways with Coach Simone Inzaghi if Eliminated by Benfica in Champions League"

Inter Milan will sack coach Simone Inzaghi should they be knocked out of the Champions League quarterfinals at the hands of Benfica.

This according to the online version of Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the final straw for the Nerazzurri management would be if they fail to qualify for the semifinals of the Champions League.

Inter have a 2-0 aggregate lead after the first leg at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, after goals from Nicolo Barella and a spot-kick from Romelu Lukaku helped secure the win.

This first leg result puts the Nerazzurri within a whisker away from reaching their first Champions League semifinal since 2010, when José Mourinho led Inter to a historic continental treble.

However, should Simone Inzaghi fail to qualify for the semifinal then chances are very high that the Inter will sack the coach immediately, the report continues.

In fact, had the Nerazzurri not reached the quarterfinal stage of the Champions League Simone Inzaghi would have already been sent packing yesterday, the report adds.

Furthermore, the report continues, that should Inzaghi be axed it would be the start of a squad overhaul described as a “revolution” this coming summer.

Last night, Inter suffered their 11th Serie A defeat this season at the hands of Monza after a dreary performance mired in missing chances with the usual momentary lapse of concentration defensively costing them a goal yet again.

The defeat against Monza was Inter Milan‘s third consecutive home defeat in the Serie A without scoring a goal, something that has never happened in the history of a club that was founded in 1908.

As things stand, Inter sit in 5th spot in the Serie A on 51 points, two behind crosstown rivals AC Milan as well as former coach José Mourinho’s Roma who have a game in hand, playing Udinese at home later tonight.

Inter are currently 10 points behind Lazio in second spot and 24 points off of Napoli who look destined to become champions of Italy in a matter of weeks.
