Lazio striker Ciro Immobile escapes nasty car accident with tram
Lazio striker Ciro Immobile was taken to hospital, and seemed pretty lucky to be okay, after his car smashed into a tram in Rome on Sunday morning.
Immobile and his teammates have surprised everyone in Serie A this season and are currently second in the league, though miles behind leaders Napoli.
The forward's penalty against Spezia on Friday night helped lift them above their rivals into the runners up spot, as the race for the top four is really heating up in Italy.
However, just days later, and the Italy international will be thanking his lucky stars, after he was involved in a crash whilst driving his two daughters.
The front of his car was completely smashed in after a collision with a tram, as you can see in the video below, but they still walked away from the incident.
Speaking to AGTW after getting out of his vehicle, the former Borussia Dortmund marksman said, "The tram ran a red light. Luckily I'm fine, my arm just hurts a little."
The player and his daughters were taken to hospital but none of them was thought to be seriously injured, though Corriere dello Sport said the 33-year-old had a bloodied hand and may have fractured his shoulder.
He'd still be happy with that outcome, from the crash just minutes away from the Stadio Olimpico, considering the damage that his car took.
He was also reportedly composed enough to help an injured person into an ambulance and asked about their condition following the accident.
A witness told AGTW, "I saw the car arrive and then the crash, lots of people on the tram, the driver, on the ground"
Gazzetta dello Sport say that several other cars were also involved and that tram passengers couldn't 'say with certainty' that the tram ran the red light.
Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri will certainly be hopeful that the striker can return soon, with a tough run in to the end of the season seeing the side face both AC Milan and Inter Milan.
The two Milan clubs are also challenging to finish in the top four, though they could be distracted by their Champions League campaigns.
There could be a repeat of the infamous Marco Materazzi and Rui Costa picture, from the 2005 quarter finals, with the pair of clubs on the verge of setting up a semi final meeting.
Milan defeated league leaders Napoli 1-0 in their first leg, having beaten them in the league just 10 days before, whilst Inter beat Benfica 2-0 in Portugal.
