Man Utd 'close to agreeing' new deal with key player as Marcus Rashford contract update provided

Manchester United are close to agreeing a new contract with number one goalkeeper David De Gea, according to ESPN.

The 32-year-old's future has been a subject of uncertainty following reports that he has been left unsatisfied with United's proposals thus far.

Erik ten Hag has introduced a salary cap preventing players from earning over £200,000 per-week, after claims of 'dressing room jealousy' surrounding vastly differing pay cheques at the club.

The new wage system, labelled the 'Ronaldo rule', came into force following Cristiano Ronaldo's acrimonious departure, with the Portuguese superstar said to be taking home over £500,000-per-week during his most recent stint at Old Trafford.

While De Gea remains well over the threshold, with a reported wage of £375,000 per-week. Although the Spaniard has agreed to a pay-cut in order to meet Ten Hag's new regulations.

De Gea is approaching the end of his current contract at Old Trafford and could leave for free in the summer, though the club do hold the option of triggering a one-year extension to his existing deal.

However, ESPN have revealed that De Gea's contract debacle could be reaching its conclusion, with the shot-stopper 'close' to agreeing fresh terms.

The publication explains United are using larger performance-related incentives to encourage De Gea to extend his 12-year stay.

While it is thought that the majority of the terms have been finalised, although talks are continuing about how the contract is structured.

Rashford contract update

Marcus Rashford is another player yet to sign a new deal at Old Trafford, with the Englishman's contract due to expire next year.

Rashford has been in scintillating form since the World Cup came to an end, scoring 27 goals across all competitions in what is already his highest scoring season at Old Trafford.

And in a boost for supporters, Ten Hag has allegedly made the 25-year-old's contract a 'priority'.

Meanwhile, negotiations are not said to have been affected by the uncertainty surrounding the club's new ownership.

It is also claimed that there is a growing confidence 'on all sides that a new deal will be agreed'.
