Olivier Giroud named most underrated forward of his generation

Olivier Giroud has been named as the most underrated forward of his generation, after helping AC Milan reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Good lord Giroud is a handsome man isn't he? That has nothing to do with this story, or how good a striker he is, but I just felt it needed saying.

Earlier in the season I was lucky enough to be in the San Siro when he received his marching orders for getting a second yellow card when taking his shirt off celebrating a goal, what a dream.

And then at the World Cup he became the all time top scorer for his country, bringing up his 53rd goal as France knocked England out of the tournament.

On Tuesday night, the achievements kept coming for the former Chelsea striker, as he helped AC Milan progress through ot the semi-finals of the Champions League.

His goal in the 1-0 win over Napoli may have been more to do with Raphael Leao's brilliant run but not everyone would have been in position to slot home.

And the goal has once again got people talking about the 36-year-old's legacy, with Ally McCoist naming him the 'most underrated' forward.

 "Not as easy on the eye, you know what I’m saying," McCoist began on talkSPORT.

"Not even laboured," the Scotsman said in reaction to Laura Woods using the description, "he’s just one of these centre forwards who does his job

"Do you know what I mean? He doesn’t do anything outstanding, but he does a lot of things really well."

Woods interjected again, adding, "He's not quick."

"No. And he’s not going to give a stopover, and he’s not going to beat two players, he’s not going to drop his shoulder," answered former Rangers star McCoist.

"But I’ll tell you what he will do, he’ll put the ball in the back of the net. How about that?

"I think that’s quite good."

McCoist added, "You get players around him, you get service to him and he’ll deliver.

"His record, you cannot argue with his record, he’s won the World Cup. I think they got beat in the European Championships final, if I remember, however, won the Champions League, won the Europa League, Serie A, FA Cups.

"He’s the top scorer for the French national team of all time."

Again Woods jumped in to say, "And he had to overtake Thierry Henry."

"Correct," the former Scotland striker replied, "So he might get a little bit of disrespect in some quarters, but not this quarter."
