Revealed: The financial impact promotion will have on Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham

Wrexham only needs to win one game to secure promotion back to the Football League and stands to earn a substantial amount of money as a consequence.

In 2021, the Dragons were acquired by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, owners from Hollywood, who paid £2 million for the takeover. They have subsequently invested £10 million in the club with the aim of returning it to its former glory.

Since 2008, Wrexham has been playing in Non-League football. However, with their exceptional 100-plus-point campaign in the National League, they appear poised to play in League Two next season.

The club has recently received a £25 million investment for the construction of a new 5,500-seater stand at their home ground, the Racecourse Ground. However, additional funds could potentially be forthcoming.

Firstly, there is a certain amount of £1.1 million that is assured for their television earnings and sponsorships, as well as the Premier League solidarity payment.

As part of the EFL's large agreement with Sky Sports, a club can potentially earn up to £100,000 for each of their home games that are televised, with the amount increasing for more lucrative time slots.

On the other hand, visiting teams usually receive a payment of £10,000 for their appearance on television.

"If chosen live, depending on whether you are the home team or the away team, it works out between £10,000-£100,000,” football finance expert Kieran Maguire explained.

"There are various slots for the EFL's Sky deal. The away team gets £10,000 and the home team can get up to £100,000.

"The exact amount and details are a bit murky and nothing has ever been confirmed in writing, but we are reasonably close there.

"As the home team, if it's a 12:30 pm kick-off on a Saturday you get more, if it's on a Friday night you get less.”

Although this amount is significantly less than the £1.2 million that Premier League clubs receive, given Wrexham's worldwide popularity, one would anticipate their matches being broadcasted frequently.

This season, Wrexham's matches have been frequently broadcasted on BT Sport, and they have also garnered impressive viewership figures on the National League streaming service since its launch in December.

Remarkably, Wrexham's 3-3 FA Cup draw against Sheffield United in January attracted more viewers on ESPN in the United States than any other game that weekend, including matches featuring Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain.

According to a recent financial report, there was a significant turnover increase of 404%, rising from £1.478 million to almost £6 million. However, there were also losses amounting to £2.914 million, which can mainly be attributed to the acquisition of the Racecourse.

Matchday income accounted for £2.65 million and holding company, R.R. McReynolds Company LLC have filed trademarks for 'Wrexham FC 1864', 'Wrexham FC', Wrexham Is The Name' and Welcome to Wrexham' - the club's documentary - so expect all sorts of merchandise to be in the works.

They will have the opportunity to promote their products in five different categories including clothing, sportswear, toys, luggage, games, and entertainment through their trademarks, with the latter one currently awaiting approval.
