Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane involved in the most awkward substitution ever, there was no eye contact

Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane were involved in an extremely awkward substitution during Bayern Munich's Champions League tie against Manchester City.

Sane and Mane clashed in the first-leg at the Etihad as the pair had an on-field argument before the Senegalese forward punched his teammate.

Mane has since been handed a 'record' fine by the German club, who looked to overturn the first-leg deficit against Man City on Wednesday.

But they failed to progress to the next round of the competition as they were held 1-1 at the Allianz Arena, with Erling Haaland grabbing a goal in the 57th minute.

Shortly after his strike, Thomas Tuchel replaced Sane with Mane, prompting an awkward encounter as the German winger trudged off the pitch.

The former Liverpool star put both his hands out, with Sane just giving him one hand as he didn't make contact with his club colleague.

Needless to say, the substitution between Sane and Mane sent social media wild as some fans think their feud isn't over.

One Twitter user wrote: "The Mane-Sane Saga continues."

A second tweeted: "Things we love to see. What proper managers do. Big win."

A third added: "Great to see. This is what it means to be a man."

A fourth said: "MAD sub though!"

Another commented: "This was awkward."

Sane, who had a great chance to put his side in front on the night in the first-half, admits he should have scored.

He told BT Sport: "It was a good game from us, a really strong game. I had to score. It's tough because we lost the first game 3-0. We had them under control, pressured really well and won lots of balls in midfield. If I had scored, I'd like to know what would have happened.

"City are really experienced and know how to control the game, that's why it's really annoying [to have lost the first leg 3-0]. I'm really proud about [the performance]. We have to keep the spirit up and keep going."
