Jota Avoids Red Card for Dangerous Tackle, Scores Winner Moments Later

Diogo Jota, the Liverpool forward, can count himself fortunate to have stayed on the field to secure the victory for his team in a thrilling match at Anfield.

Liverpool swiftly secured a 3-0 lead within the first 15 minutes of the match, with Curtis Jones initiating the scoring in the third minute, Luis Diaz adding another two minutes later, and Mohamed Salah converting a penalty in the 15th minute.

After Ivan Perisic had gotten the better of Virgil Van Dijk, Harry Kane scored for Spurs to pull one goal back. Later in the second half, Son Heung-Min added another goal for the visitors.

According to The Guardian, Richarlison believed he had secured a draw for Spurs before Jota's last-minute winner saved Liverpool's reputation.

The Portuguese international should consider himself lucky to have remained on the pitch to score the winner, as he should have been sent off moments earlier.

Jota’s boot was at head height and connected with Skipp right above the eye.

Medical staff attended to the Spurs star for several minutes before he came off to be further looked at.

The decision was not even checked on VAR, though the Portugal international did receive a booking.

Jota received only a yellow card for the challenge, which left fans and interim Tottenham coach Ryan Mason disappointed.

“Probably one of the clearest red cards I’ve seen on Skipp. I have to be careful what I say, but ultimately that’s an impossible one to miss. When you talk about endangering an opponent, to draw blood from a stud when his head is 5.5ft in the air just baffles me,” Mason said, as quoted by talkSPORT.
