Leeds Record Signing Throws Shirt to Fans but They Throw It Back After Relegation

Leeds United's three-year stint in the Premier League has come to an end - and the fans' fury was clear to see at full-time.

The Peacocks' club record signing Georginio Rutter was applauding the fans moments after relegation was confirmed, when he decided to throw his shirt into the crowd. However, moments later it was back on the pitch when a member of the Elland Road faithful launched it back at the Frenchman.

Rutter didn't pick the shirt back up - and it remained under the goalposts as Leeds fans turned toxic. Chants of "sack the board" and "Marcelo Bielsa" rang around Elland Road after the full-time whistle was blown.

One fan tweeted: "The first recommended question that comes up when you google him is ‘Why did Leeds buy Rutter?’ so this went exactly as I expected!"

"Why are Leeds fans taking their anger out on a guy who barely played," a second added. While a third tweeted: "Harsh that it’s him but that’s hilarious!"

However, other fans were more sympathetic towards the youngster: "I can't believe we've not used Rutter more. Actually f***ing showed some fight and care today in a game that was already done!"

Alongside the board and Rutter, Weston McKennie was also slammed by Leeds fans for his performance. McKennie arrived in West Yorkshire on loan from Juventus in January.

And the loanee has failed to win over the Elland Road faithful with a string of performances that have left a lot to be desired. McKennie was serenaded with a chant of "you fat b******" as a parting gift when he was hooked by Sam Allardyce.
