Pep Guardiola Expresses Displeasure at Erling Haaland for Allowing Ilkay Gundogan to Take Penalty in Match against Leeds United

After conceding penalty-taking duties to Ilkay Gundogan during their match against Leeds, Manchester City's manager, Pep Guardiola, was left incensed with Erling Haaland.

During their match at the Etihad on  Saturday, Manchester City had a comfortable 2-0 lead, thanks to two goals scored by Ilkay Gundogan in the first half.

In the last 10 minutes of the match, City were awarded a penalty. However, instead of taking the penalty himself as the designated taker, Erling Haaland allowed Gundogan to step up and complete his hat-trick.

Ilkay Gundogan missed the penalty, which was an uncharacteristic failure, leaving Pep Guardiola exasperated with his star striker.

Guardiola was seen pointing at Haaland and clearly repeating the words "You have to take it!" in frustration.

In an interview with BBC Match of the Day after the match, Ilkay Gundogan stated that "First he showed to Erling that he was quite mad about that and then also he had a go at me. It is what it is at the end."

"The moment Erling grabbed the ball, I was sure he was going to take it but he looked out for me. I checked with him a few times to make sure he was sure. He was certain to hand the ball to me."

After Rodrigo's late goal for Leeds barely a minute later, Guardiola's blood pressure may have risen even higher as City's seemingly complete control looked at risk of evaporating.

However, Guardiola's side held on for a vital three points, putting them four points clear at the Premier League summit and inflicting a painful defeat on Sam Allardyce in his first match as Leeds boss.

Guardiola's men have achieved 10 straight wins in the league and are now preparing for a crucial Champions League semi-final clash with none other than the reigning European champions, Real Madrid, on Tuesday.
