One of Lionel Messi's new Inter Miami team-mates had to be rushed to hospital after being bitten by a poisonous spider.

Dutch goalkeeper Nick Marsman was looked after by healthcare professionals for three days after the unfortunate incident which occurred at a zoo in Florida.

His wife Nathalie Den Dekker, a lawyer and former Miss Netherlands winner, uploaded a picture of him sleeping in his hospital bed on her Instagram story.

Captioning the image, she wrote: "The downside of living in a tropical climate… is when you go to the zoo and get bitten by a poisonous spider. End up being hospitalised for three days."

Fortunately she soon had good news on Marsman's health, following up with another post of him hugging their daughter and writing: "Happy to have you back home, now get well soon."

Messi is set to link up with Marsman in Miami after his summer break which is now underway following a friendly against Australia with Argentina last week.

The MLS club's co-owner Jorge Mas has revealed he'll make his debut on July 21 against Mexican side Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup, with tickets for the match skyrocketing in price.

Marsman previously expressed concerns that they wouldn't be able to handle the major increase in exposure that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner brings with him.

He told ESPN earlier this year: “It would be fun [if Messi joined]. I personally think that our club is not yet ready when he comes.

“People can walk onto the field, there are no fences or anything. We walk from the training centre to the stadium for the match without security. So I guess they're not ready yet. But I hope he comes."
