Suarez 'to retire due to injuries' - and he'll have no hope of Messi reunion

Luis Suarez could be about to call time on his eventful playing career due to injury, leaving fans of the striker heartbroken.

The former Liverpool and Barcelona hero, 36, left Atletico Madrid in January for Brazilian side Gremio and has scored seven goals in 16 league games. However, it is reported, due to constant knee pain, Suarez is set to call time on his career.

Brazilian journalist German Garcia Grova reported: “Luis Su├írez told the board of #Gremio that he is retiring from football. It is due to intense pain in the knee.”

He added that Gremio will take the bizarre step of inserting an ‘anti-Inter Miami’ clause into any separation agreement. Suarez has previously been linked with the MLS team, which is co-owned by David Beckham.

Suarez’s former Barca team-mate, Lionel Messi, has recently joined the franchise after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.

If the controversial Uruguayan does hang up his boots, he will leave his legion of fans with many fond memories.

One tweeted: “The mastery displayed by this man as an all-round striker is truly awe-inspiring. With every touch of the ball, he orchestrated a symphony of skill, technique, and instinct that left spectators in sheer admiration. His ability to seamlessly combine power, finesse, and precision

A second declared: “End of an era, best striker of our generation.”

Another bemoaned: “Damn, all the players I grew up watching are slowly disappearing from football... so many greats retiring.

A fourth said: “Greatest striker of his generation.” A fifth added: “The best and most chaotic striker of all time.”

One fan declared: “Suarez was a monster at Liverpool and Barca, such a legend. Enjoy the retirement.”

Another commented: “This is heartbreaking news! Luis Suarez is a legendary player and it's devastating to hear his career might be cut short due to injury. He deserves a proper send-off and we'll always remember his impact on the game.”
