The last time Didier Deschamps included the Man United forward in his squad was in March 2018.
“Since the World Cup, three or four times he was due to be part of our squad”, the France boss explained the 24-year-old's inclusion on Thursday.
“For various different reasons, it didn’t happen. With what he has been doing since last season, now he is back in the squad.”
Paul Pogba, in turn, has been excluded from the 23-man list after testing positive for COVID-19.
France will take on Sweden on Saturday, September 5 before hosting Croatia three days later.
