Source: Manchester City leading candidates to land Messi if he leaves
The Citizens are one of the few teams who can afford Leo's salary yet everything would depend on whether he leaves for free or not.
Manchester City were not trying to land Leo Messi before news on his decision to leave broke this Tuesday.
Yet, they could get interested in this transfer now, highly reliable Fabrizio Romano has just tweeted.
He singled out the Citizens as one of 'few clubs' who can pay Leo's 'enormous wages'.
The Argentinian reportedly earns around €48m per year after tax, as per Diario AS.
Romano adds that anything can happen but any potential transfer would depend on whether Leo leaves Barcelona for free or not.
