Chelsea manager Frank Lampard reveals reason behind Rudiger's omission from yesterday's squad

Chelsea manager says that the club now has 5 centre-backs and he can't include all 5 in the squad and he decided to cut Rudiger from the team yesterday.

Lampard was, however, impressed with Tomori's second-half performance.

Frank Lampard was asked about yesterday's centre-back selections: "We now have five centre-halves at the club and I can’t pick a squad that has three of them on the bench so that’s the way it is," he replied in an interview with Chelseafc.com.

"I have to pick the squad from training and different situations and that was a selection one today.

"I went with Tomori [as a substitute] and he did really well when he came on. He hasn't played for a while and has been struggling with fitness like most of the squad but I was delighted with him."

Antonio Rudiger was the centre-back who didn't make the cut yesterday in what was not really a good game for another Chelsea centre-back as Andreas Christensen was sent off just before half-time.

Lampard reserved some praise for Tomori and our defence should get a whole lot better when Thiago Silva is finally deemed fit to start!
