The Croatia midfielder is delighted with the Blues' spirit.
"It’s difficult to talk now but we had a good first half with some chances," Mateo Kovacic told Sky Sports after a disappointing loss to Liverpool.
"We were prepared for them to come to press us. We tried to create from the back some chances, and if you don’t score, it’s frustrating.
"They went one man up and it was difficult against a great team like them. We fought quite well in the second half. It’ll be better to analyse what we did well and what’s wrong later.
"We lost but we need to keep our heads up and fight in the next games. It’s a new beginning for us. The season is long and we must keep fighting hard."
Chelsea have lost 2-0 to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on the Premier League matchday 2. The Blues were left 10-man at the end of the first half following a last-man challenge for Andreas Christensen and conceded a goal right after the break.
Nothing was going Chelsea's way: later on, Kepa passed the ball to Sadio Mane, gifting the forward a brace. The Blues could have turned the game around when Timo Werner earned a penalty but Alisson saved Jorginho's strike.
