Rashford backed to receive City of Manchester award for charitable efforts

Manchester’s councillors have hailed Rashford’s ‘outstanding and exceptional contribution to the city’.

The councillors want Rashford’s excellent charity efforts to be recorded in the history of the city.

Marcus Rashford is likely to be awarded the City of Manchester award for his excellent work in reducing child food poverty in England amid the Covid-19 crisis.

As per Manchester Evening News, a motion presented by Manchester’s councillors to a special council meeting on Wednesday said: “The council hereby records its view that the powers entrusted to it by law recognising the outstanding and exceptional contribution made by Marcus Rashford MBE concerning the work he has done for the benefit of the young people of Manchester.

“Council is asked to agree that the significant and positive contribution made by Mr Rashford should be formally recognised and recorded in the city’s history and that this would be properly exercised by conferring upon him the City of Manchester Award.”

The motion was accepted by the Lord Mayor of Manchester Tommy Judge and supported by members of both political parties. It’s now said that Rashford will now be contacted to decide a date for the awarding ceremony amid the Covid-19 restrictions.

The Man United striker has already been given the MBE honour for his charitable efforts and is continuing with his campaign in which he attempts to end food poverty in the country.
