Super Eagles Mark-man Inspire German Club To Victory Again

Super Eagles-bound striker Taiwo Awoniyi was instrumental as Union Berlin continue in their quest for Champions League football with 1-0 victory over Bayern Leverkusen in the round sixteen fixtures of the German Bundesliga on Friday night.

Following a first half dominated by the more established Leverkusen, the ‘Berlin Iron’ were indeed resilient in dealing with the blistering pace of the Bayern Leverkusen attackers.

However, despite being on the back-foot for most of the first half actions, Uli Fitcher’s tutored side was able to calm the storm and caused their opponent several problems on the counter-attack in the second half

Meanwhile, Awoniyi was unarguably one of the stand out players for Union, stretching the Leverkusen back four with his strength and powerful playing style.

In the 88th minutes of the thrilling encounter, Union Berlin German midfielder Christopher Lenz carved open the opponent backline with a through ball to Cedric Teuchert who got into a one-on-one situation with Lukas Hradesky in goal for Leverkusen before scoring with a well taken shot.

After this victory, the ‘Union Irons’ remain in the fourth position on the German Bundesliga table.
