Ndidi, Iwobi, Ejuke Get Commendations, Chukwueze Also In Spotlight

Leicester City of England midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi has earned words of commendation, alongside Everton’s Alex Iwobi and Chidera Ejuke from CSKA Moscow of Russia, following their performances for the Super Eagles against Liberia on Saturday.

Ndidi and Iwobi both started the match at Stade Grand in Tangier, Morocco, while Ejuke got off the bench midway through the second half of the game, which Nigeria won 2-0, following which coach of the side, Gernot Rohr stated glee with their performances.

Megasportsarena.com reports that, although many Nigerian fans were critical of Iwobi’s display, before he gave way to Ejuke, who was also blamed for holding the ball too long and showboating his dribbling skills, Rohr declared that he was satisfied with what he saw from the lads.

He specifically pointed at the fact that Iwobi and Ndidi are recently back from injuries that ruled them out of the previous last two matches of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, home and away versus Central African Republic, hence his verdict that they did well to fit back in seamlessly.

He went on to chart an expectant course ahead of the last game of the qualifiers, which will be against Cape Verde on Tuesday in Lagos, and served up a strong hint that Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze, who is also back from a recent injury, could get a role to play in the game at Teslim Balogun Stadium.

Rohr stated: “I think that the comeback of some players like Ndidi, like Iwobi who didn’t play the last time is a good thing for us. Ejuke is coming now, Chukwueze is coming back from injury.

“(I hope to see the) opportunity to score for them and we have still to work on our realism offensively and there is still a lot of work to do.

“We have to make a result not to lose the final game but we are at home. It’s good to have pressure for my players, if they believe it’s easy, if they believe that it’s done, it’s always difficult.

“So, it’s good to play with pressure so they will be able to handle the situation like we did all the time. We had one accident, we lost one match, we won four so now the final match we want to win it also.”
