France national team head coach Didier Deschamps has confirmed that Jules Kounde will undergo surgery over a hamstring issue.
“Jules Kounde will have surgery tomorrow because he has a problem that he has had for several months. I knew about his physical condition,” Deschamps told Telefoot.
Strangely, knowing about the issue did not prevent Deschamps from starting Kounde against Croatia on Monday in the Nations League. France lost the game and Kounde was taken off at the interval.
It is not known how long it would take for Kounde to recover from the surgery. However, it might delay the Frenchman's potential transfer to Chelsea.
The 23-year-old is reportedly the Blues' top target for the summer transfer window.
