Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has revealed that he changed his name after converting to Islam following his marriage to Moroccan Sara Bella.
'I grew up with Muslims so at the end of the day it's the same thing. I'm already married and my Muslim name is Yakubu,' the Ghanaian said in an Instagram video, as per the Daily Mail.
Despite the name change, the midfielder will still have Thomas on the back of his Arsenal shirt next season.
This is not such a unique case. For example, ex-Bayern star Franck Ribery also converted to Islam after getting married and adopted the name Bilal Yusuf Mohammed - but we still know him as Ribery.
