Barcelona Shift Transfer Focus Ahead of Impending Ousmane Dembele Exit
Barcelona are set to lose star winger Ousmane Dembele, who is in negotiations to join Paris Saint-Germain. This is a major setback for the Blaugrana, and has forced them to alter their transfer plans.
Even though Dembele is leaving, Barcelona still have Ansu Fati, Ez Abde, Ferran Torres, and Raphinha to occupy the wide positions. However, Abde may be sold if a replacement for Dembele is brought in.
After it became clear that Dembele would be leaving, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez put the brakes on a move for right-back Ivan Fresneda. This was because the club needed to assess their financial situation before making any new signings.
According to Relevo, Barcelona may now go for alternative options that they previously thought were out of their price range. The club are targeting three positions: right-back, midfielder, and forward.
The forward in question would be able to play as a number nine and back up Robert Lewandowski. If possible, Barcelona may try to bring forward the transfer of Vitor Roque, who was originally scheduled to join the club in 2024.
Xavi is also keen to see if there is enough money available to bring in Manchester City right-back Joao Cancelo on loan. Meanwhile, Giovani Lo Celso has been linked with a move to Barcelona, as Xavi seeks another midfielder who can play the final pass.
The loss of Dembele is a blow to Barcelona, but the club are still well-stocked in the wide areas. With the right signings, they can still have a successful season.
